A weekend out in west London
Chiswick and Brook Green have always struck a charming balance of green space, culture, independent shops and excellent places to eat, all within easy reach of central London. As autumn settles in, it's the perfect time to slow down and enjoy what's on the doorstep.
Start with a walk
Chiswick House and Gardens is the perfect place for an autumn stroll, with landscaped grounds and plenty of space to watch the seasons change. Brook Green itself offers a quiet pocket of green surrounded by beautiful period houses and independent businesses nearby. For larger outdoor space, Gunnersbury Park is only moments away and has wide paths, open parkland and historic buildings worth exploring.
Follow the river
Starting from Chiswick, the Thames Path takes in riverside views, historic houses and the calm surroundings of Chiswick Mall. Continue towards Barnes or Hammersmith for a longer walk, pausing at one of the cafés or pubs along the way for a warm drink.
Discover something new
As the weather becomes cooler, there’s no better way to spend an afternoon than exploring a museum. The Natural History Museum is a favourite for all ages thanks to its grand architecture and changing collections. The Victoria and Albert Museum will fascinate those drawn to design, fashion and decorative art. Both sit within easy reach of South Kensington's boutiques and eateries, making them perfectly placed for a coffee or lunch afterwards.
No autumn weekend feels complete without a Sunday roast with friends and family. After a morning spent outside in chilly weather, roast potatoes and all the trimmings are a fitting way to end the weekend. There’s no shortage of welcoming pubs and restaurants in the area - visit Brook Green Hotel and The Bell & Crown in Chiswick for traditional cuisine and British classics.
